Vx Therapy Q&A

What is Vx Therapy?

Vx Therapy is the name of a virtual reality (VR) treatment developed by Harvard MedTech. Under the close supervision of your Rubix Health provider, you use the Vx Therapy headset at home for three months.

In addition to improving your symptoms, your Vx Therapy experience can help you stop taking or lower the dose of your medication and restore your ability to engage in daily life.

When would I need Vx Therapy?

Vx Therapy is especially beneficial for people diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). You may also want to consider Vx Therapy to help you overcome conditions such as acute stress disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, and insomnia.

Treatment with the Vx Therapy virtual reality program is also proven to reduce chronic pain. If you struggle with pain from any health problem, such as nerve damage or back pain, this program can dramatically ease your pain and improve the quality of your sleep.

How does Vx Therapy work?

Vx Therapy combines virtual reality treatments that you can do at home with in-person or telehealth behavioral therapy provided by your Rubix Health provider.

During your initial visit, they work with you to set goals, explain how to use the device, and describe what to expect during your three-month treatment. Your provider also schedules regular appointments to evaluate your progress, answer questions, and provide support.

When participating in Vx Therapy, you wear a VR headset that lets you experience virtual worlds and engage in virtual activities.

During your first month, you focus on learning to use the virtual reality device and immersing yourself in the experience. As you continue Vx Therapy into the second month, changes begin to occur in your brain’s nerve activity.

The Vx Therapy device provides biometric feedback showing your brain’s response as it builds new connections, improves communication pathways, and restores the neurochemical balance lost after a traumatic event.

Though your provider reviews your progress throughout the treatment, the biggest difference in your mental, emotional, and behavioral symptoms occurs during the third month. Most patients reach or exceed their goals by then.
